Maxcem Elite FAQs

Maxcem Elite

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Maxcem Elite adhere better to dentin, enamel, and substrates than Maxcem original?
The resin matrix has been optimized to improve its wetting ability to establish a more intimate contact with dental substrates, dentin and enamel. Additionally, the patented redox initiator system, along with our patented 4:1 ratio automix delivery method, further maximizes Maxcem Elite's adhesive property.
Is Maxcem Elite suitable for CEREC?
Absolutely. Maxcem Elite bonds well to CEREC blocks as demonstrated by its bond strength of 30MPa to Vitablocs.
How soon can I tack-cure Maxcem Elite to hasten its gel state?
You can tack-cure Maxcem Elite immediately after placement to hasten gel state. You can also allow Maxcem Elite to self-cure to reach its gel state.
Will Maxcem Elite adhere to implants?
Absolutely. Maxcem Elite has a rather strong affinity to titanium alloy, implant abutment material. Bond strength to titanium alloy is a phenomenal 33MPa.
Do I have to refrigerate Maxcem Elite?
No refrigeration for Maxcem Elite is necessary. Please avoid excess heat, and refrigeration is always optional for optimum freshness.
Can I use Optibond All-In-One or OptiBond Solo Plus with Maxcem Elite?
Maxcem Elite is a self-etch, self-adhesive cement and therefore does not require a bonding agent. The use of a Kerr bonding agent with Maxcem Elite is truly optional. When combined with OptiBond All-In-One, our research team found dentin and enamel bond strength of Maxcem Elite to be 35MPa and 30MPa, respectively. When combined with OptiBond Solo Plus, our research team found dentin and enamel bond strength of Maxcem Elite to be 35MPa and 33MPa, respectively.
Should a desensitizing agent (i.e. Gluma) be used on the prep prior to cementing with Maxcem Elite?
The potential for patient sensitivity is greatly reduced when using Maxcem Elite compared to traditional total etch resin cement systems. This is primarily due to the fact that Maxcem Elite is a self-etch/self-adhering cement and there is no separate acid etching step to open dentin tubules. Therefore the risk of sensitivity is greatly reduced. Maxcem Elite was not designed to be used with a desensitizer and this additional step would provide no advantages.
