SonicFill™ 2Dental Composites
Single-Fill™ Bulk Fill Dental Composite System
Building upon the award-winning performance of its predecessor, SonicFill 2 meets the key requirements of a successful bulk fill procedure dentists deserve and expect.
- Excellent adaptation and handling
- High depth of cure
- Lasting marginal integrity
- Improved aesthetics, durability and more working time
SonicFill 2 bulk fill composite system transforms tedious, repetitive posterior restorations into easy and reliable Single-Fill placement: filling cavities up to 5mm in depth in a single increment, with a single material – and no liner or capping layer.
Shorter procedure, leaner inventory, confident execution
Watch what happens when you apply SonicFill™ 2 to a range of cavities, and how it compares to the traditional layering technique.
SonicFill 2 is the bulk fill composite system powered by sonic energy expertly blending KaVo technology and Kerr materials knowledge into one system.
How Does it Work?
SonicFill’s composite incorporates a highly-filled proprietary resin with special modifiers that react to sonic energy. As sonic energy is applied through the handpiece, the modifier causes the viscosity to drop (up to 84%), increasing the flowability of the composite, enabling quick placement and precise adaptation to the cavity walls. When the sonic energy is stopped, the composite returns to a more viscous, non-slumping state that is perfect for carving and contouring.
The dramatic reaction to the sonic energy applied through the exclusive KaVo handpiece reduces the viscosity of the Kerr nanohybrid composite up to 84%.
This allows great adaptation, for reliable and predictable restorations.
The special rheological modifiers allow the bulk fill composite to adapt its viscosity:
- Sonic energy applied: viscosity drops for a quick and precise placement.
- Sonic energy interrupted: viscous non-slumping state for great carving.
SonicFill 2 uses refractive index matching and a more efficient curing mechanism to allow polymerisation depths up to 5mm.
The optimal shrinkage stress properties also enable a higher concentration of initiators for a more effective curing process.
SonicFill 2 does not require liner nor capping layer, eliminating the need to stock up on multiple materials for different applications.
Moreover, its unique features in terms of adaptation, low shrinkage and depth of cure make it ideal for all larger cavity restorations:
- Class I
- Class II
- Class V
- Core build-up
- Post-endo treatments
Know Your SonicFill Handpiece
The SonicFill Handpiece is air-driven and connects to dental units using a MULTIflex compatible coupling. The recommended operating pressure range is from 36-50 psi. The dispensing rate is selected by turning the regulating ring at the base of the handpiece. The dispensing rate range 1 through 5 only affects the flow rate of the composite – it does not change the composite viscosity.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The SonicFill Handpiece requires basic maintenance that includes cleaning after each use and a lubrication spray once per week.
Automated cleaners, such as the QuattroCare™ can be used or it can be manually cleaned between uses. Automated cleaners from other manufacturers will work as well – see the Handpiece Directions for Use for more information.
Why does it simplify the dental procedure?
- SonicFill 2 fills cavities up to 5mm in depth in a single increment with a single material – and no liner or capping layer.
- Assures good adaption to the cavity walls and excellent mechanical properties.
- Transforms tedious and repetitive posterior dental restorations into easy and reliable Single-Fill™ placements.
How does it do this?
The highly-filled proprietary resin with rheological modifiers reacts to the sonic energy applied through the KaVo handpiece.
When the sonic energy is applied, the viscosity drops, enabling quick placement and precise adaptation to the cavity walls.
When the sonic energy is interrupted, the dental composite returns to a more viscous, non-slumping state, ideal for carving and contouring.
The industry is talking about SonicFill – the bulk fill dental composite system that uses sonic energy to make posterior restorations easier, faster and more profitable than you ever imagined. See what your peers have to say about this innovative solution.

The ideal air pressure is between 30-50 psi.
Yes, SonicFill can be used on any air line that has the proper pressure and is equipped with a MULTIflex coupler.
Yes, SonicFill Handpiece will work with any MULTIflex coupler.
Yes, SonicFill Handpiece can be cleaned with automated systems. Please observe the manufacturer's directions for use for the cleaning system, and review the handpiece directions for use regarding use of these systems.
Before disinfection, the handpiece should be cleaned using a brush under running water between uses. The SonicFill Handpiece Lubrication Spray should be used at least once weekly, after cleaning but before sterilization. Use of the QuattroCare system eliminates the need for the lubrication spray.
Kerr recommends CaviCide™ or CaviWipes™ by Kerr Prevention for disinfection.
No. The o-ring on the MULTIflex coupler blocks the flow of water into the handpiece. If the o-ring is damaged, water may leak from the back of the handpiece, but the handpiece will not be damaged. This simply means that the o-ring on the coupler has worn and should be replaced.
Only SonicFill and SonicFill 2 Composite can be used with the SonicFill Handpiece. These are the only materials that are specifically designed to react to the sonic energy, and are the only materials available in the specially designed Unidose™ tip.
The best way to control the flow rate of the SonicFill Handpiece is by using the regulating ring at the base of the unit. Setting 5 is the fastest setting, while setting 1 is the lowest.
