Root Canal Obturation anno 2024

Root canal obturation, a critical phase in endodontic therapy, has witnessed significant advancements in recent years. One of the forefront developments, is the introduction of bioceramic sealers, which seem to offer superior biocompatibility, sealing ability, and antibacterial properties compared to traditional sealers. However, their use is not exempt of controversy. The nature of these materials makes them ideal for use together with a single-cone technique (cold technique). Nevertheless, research shows that obtaining a 3D seal of the canal is essential for a long-term success, and this is better obtained with a continuous wave technique (warm technique). Is there any difference in clinical outcomes? -what should we do as clinicians? This lecture will provide an up-to-date exploration of the latest techniques, materials, and technologies employed in root canal obturation, aiming to enhance clinical outcomes and improve patient experiences.
